Sinners and Gravy
Hi Hi! I’m back! Thanks for all your patience- I hated missing the week of pop culture news! I had to call a friend and have an hour long conversation about The Valley, the Met Gala, and why Steve Irwin’s son is topless on a billboard on Melrose just to feel normal because I didn’t get to write it out last week. Let’s get to it.
What’s In The News
The Met Gala
Here's the thing, I really didn’t have the time, but also perhaps I wasn't super excited about last week's newsletter because the Met Gala as a whole was quite underwhelming to me. I hate to admit this- but I don’t think I like the Met Gala. Sorry! I don't feel like it ever gives me enough. I always want more. Even Anna Wintour herself showed up in a wrinkled dress with a stain on it.
That being said, I’ll share a few thoughts. I loved watching Law Roach short circuit when he realized that he had dressed Zendaya in almost the exact same outfit as somebody else.
Joey King didn’t get enough praise for her outfit, neither did Pusha T. Pharrell revealed he got his Invisalign done in gold for the event which is some genius-level shit. Kim Kardashian looked like a jazz club Carmen San Diego.

Lisa from BLACKPINK and White Lotus wore a picture of Rosa Parks on her crotch???
Also I mentioned last week, but Rihanna showing up looking like Rose DeWitt Bukater about to board the Titanic to reveal her pregnancy was a highlight for me. She will never not be the coolest bitch alive. Need her to release an album the day the baby’s born.
Cowboy Carter
Speaking of moms who are the coolest bitch alive, Beyoncé kicked off the Cowboy Carter tour and was joined by daughter Blue Ivy, who is one of her backup dancers and damn, that girl can dance. Somehow I’m okay with the fact that myself and all of the internet feel like her proud aunt. Beyonce was also joined by her younger daughter Rumi and she was soooo excited to come out on the first night. I think she's gotten a little bit more used to it at this point, but she was giggling and waving and breaking the Carter rule of never smiling anymore. It was so sweet- so genuine and adorable. I loved seeing Beyonce have to break the 4th wall and be a smiley mom for a minute.
Practical Magic
We got a teaser for next year's Practical Magic sequel. Gave us nothing, but still sort of exciting!
BravoCon
Bravo announced a ton of new shows at the NBCUniversal Upfronts this week. One that was particularly exciting is that they’ll be premiering a new housewives franchise, Real Housewives of Rhode Island. I don't know much of anything about Rhode Island, but apparently there's a large mafia-affiliated population there and some of the women who are rumored to be on the show might have ties? I've said it before and I'll say it again, my dream is to be a mob wife and so you know I’ll be seated.
There were tons and tons of rumors swirling and articles written about the cancellation of the new RHONY, but then Andy Cohen came out and said it isn't actually canceled. I think it will kind of go the way of Real Housewives of Miami where they're gonna not shoot it for a very long time and maybe reboot a few of the cast members. Honestly, I would be totally fine if they just threw Jessel in with a whole new cast. They also announced BravoCon is happening in November in Las Vegas, but tickets are $700!! If y'all know anyway that I could get a pass, I’m literally willing to con my way into BravoCon, so help a girl out.

Ari and Gravy
Now this is very niche NSFW TikTok news, but Ari Kytsya is dating Yung Gravy. Yes, I hated writing “Yung Gravy” and yes, I hated doing it again right there. He’s a singer/rapper I think- idk I don’t want to look it up, I just know him because Ariana Madix was in one of his music videos. Ari is both a content creator and what the kids these days call a “mattress actress” AKA a porn star on OnlyFans. While she does advocate against young girls getting into her industry, IDK how I feel about TikTok normalizing sex work to young girls1. But still, I love her. She has a really magnetic personality and I find her TikToks funny. If you think about it, my generation had The Girls Next Door and people like Jenna Jameson as everybody-loves-them porn stars2 and now Gen Z has theirs.
It’s a Boy
Trisha Paytas revealed at her LA concert that she's having a boy. There’s a ton of online speculation about the name, and considering that she has one daughter named Elvis and another named Malibu Barbie it could really be anything She's only hinted that it will be a movie title and is water themed. Poseidon maybe? Splash?
Oh, Cole
Loved this interview with Cole Escola (with interviewer Mo Rocca, whom you may recognize from the show that is my constant inspiration, Best Week Ever). I’ve loved them for so many years, especially on one of my favorite rewatch shows, Difficult People and they’ve exploded in popularity since the success of their broadway show Oh, Mary! Also love that they’ve got cool, unique, crooked teeth because as you know, I’m hugely against the veneerification of Hollywood!
What I’m Watching
Sinners
I saw Sinners recently and I know I said it last week, but they are re-releasing it into IMAX today and you just have to see it. In IMAX! At the theater! Don’t you dare watch it on a laptop! It’s one of those movies that breaks the mold-unlike anything you've ever seen before but also a combination of apparent influences. It has some scary elements, but I wouldn't say it's a horror movie. I don't know what genre it even really fits into, but it is just so original and creative. So well done and visually immaculate. I just can't say enough good things about Sinners. I want to tell you all about the history, the references, the cameos, the fact that they used actual Mississippi Choctaw Indians to play the Mississippi Choctaw Indians, but I don't wanna give away any of the plot! And please don't Google it! Just go see it. I went in totally clueless and you should, too. You can handle the scary if I can. I'm a wimp with everything- I watched the original Final Destination this week and I closed my eyes every single time somebody was murdered if that tells you anything about how much fear I can handle. You got this. Now get to theater.
Cooley High
I went to a 50th anniversary screening of the movie Cooley High. They did a Q&A with the stars and director, moderated by filmmaker Robert Townsend. Absolute legends! I felt like one of the youngest people there (rare!) and it was so amazing to be surrounded by people who have loved that movie since it came out in the 1970s. I don't know if it's that I'm about to start my period or I'm just getting a more emotional in my older age, but Cooley High does such a beautiful job of capturing the carefree excitement of youth, things like skipping school and having fun with your friends in a way that you can only do when you're young. It really made me mourn that time in my life, but in a way that was also somehow comforting to get to think about some of those experiences I had and relive them a little. I'm a little bit over emotional this week, okay?!
Major League
Also a throwback, I watched the ‘80’s baseball movie Major League this past week and I don't necessarily suggest it but it was really fun to see a silly little movie that just would absolutely never be made today. I kind of miss those movies where they just say the most cancelable stuff and they have really offensive characters- it's kinda sexist and racist but also funny? I know in a 2025 world that can't exist anymore and I accept that, but I'm still glad that we have these little time capsules of a time where it could exist. Is that fucked up to say?! Am I gonna regret writing that???!! Probably, but it's how I feel!
That’s all for this week. I've been asked to do a ranking of all the Bravo TV shows, and yes- I take requests and am honored to write about the topic I’ve studied for the last nearly 15 years. I studied Sociology in college, but I could tell you more about Jax Taylor then I can Max Weber, so buckle up for the scholarly opinions of Holly Perkins next week.
Thanks so much for reading!
I think I feel not good about it!
idk if Playboy models are porn stars??
